Xiaomi launched the production Xiaomi SU7 Ultra in early 2025: a tri-motor electric sedan with about 1,548 PS (roughly 1,527 hp) for around $73,600 in China. That April it lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:04.957, beating the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT’s 7:07.55 and becoming the fastest production EV on the track.

Porsche got the record back earlier this year, when a Taycan Turbo GT with the Manthey kit ran 6:55.553. Xiaomi clearly noticed.

Our spy photographers caught two new SU7 Ultra prototypes testing at the Ring with aero parts that make the Manthey kit look polite. The road car is also drifting toward the track-only SU7 Ultra Prototype, which ran 6:46.874 in 2024 and later got down to 6:22.091.

The bumper is new, with a big splitter and aero skirts at each side. There are fresh louvers above the front wheels and larger side skirts. The brakes may have been changed too. In some photos the carbon-ceramic discs are glowing red.

Twin-plane wing and possible DRS

The rear is where Xiaomi seems to have spent most of its effort. The twin-plane wing is nearly as big as the one on a 911 GT3 RS, and it sits on the same swan-neck mounts. It also appears to have what an active Drag Reduction System needs. Porsche’s version opens a slat at the press of a button, cutting drag and adding top speed. The photos can’t prove Xiaomi is doing the same.

Under the wing is a new diffuser, probably carbon fiber, that looks a lot like Manthey’s Taycan Turbo GT part. Between the two, the rear wheels should stay planted at speed.

Power and suspension

All that downforce will probably need stiffer suspension, and maybe more power. Xiaomi has shown a quad-motor powertrain rated at about 2,054 hp but hasn’t put it in a production car. I’d say a hotter SU7 Ultra is the obvious place to try it.

Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed any of this, so treat the DRS, brake and power details as guesses for now. Its CTO did congratulate Porsche publicly and said he hopes Xiaomi returns to the Nürburgring timing board. These prototypes look like that return in progress.
