Xiaomi Book 14 vs XiaomiBook S 12.4″, Both are Xiaomi laptops, but they suit different people. The Book 14 is a regular clamshell for students and office workers who want a big screen and Intel power at a fair price. The Book S 12.4″ is a Windows on Arm tablet with an optional keyboard, for people who carry it everywhere and take notes by hand. Xiaomi ended a four-year laptop break in March 2026 with the Book Pro 14, so these two are now the older, cheaper options.

The Book 14 comes with a 12th-gen Core i3-1220P or i5-12500H, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, and a 14-inch 2.8K screen that switches between 60Hz and 120Hz. It weighs 1.37kg and ships with a 100W charger. The Book S has a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a 12.4-inch 2560 x 1600 screen at 60Hz. It weighs 720g, is 8.95mm thick, and Xiaomi claims 13.4 hours of battery. The keyboard and Smart Pen cost extra.
ZDNET found the Book S fine for light use but not strong enough as a main work machine. I couldn’t find independent tests of the Book 14. Its i5 should be quicker on paper, but battery life is unverified. On the Book S, some x86 apps may run poorly under Windows on Arm.
The Book S launched at €699.99 for the tablet alone. In the UK it cost £599.99, with the keyboard at £129 and the pen at £89.99. Xiaomi listed the Book 14 on its global site without an official price outside China. I couldn’t confirm Nigerian pricing or retail listings for either, so expect to buy from import sellers and check the warranty first. Need one main laptop? Get the Book 14. Want a light tablet that sometimes becomes a laptop? Get the Book S.
Inside Xiaomi, the Book Pro 14 is the step up, but it launched in China first with no confirmed international date. Xiaomi’s Pad tablets fit people who don’t need Windows. Outside Xiaomi, Tech Advisor named the Surface Pro 8 and Huawei MateBook E as the Book S’s main rivals. Against the Book 14, look at the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 and ASUS Zenbook 14. This pairing is still useful because it makes you pick a form factor first.
The Book 14’s large 120Hz screen and Intel chip suit multitasking and long work sessions. At 1.37kg it gets heavy in a bag, and its global price is unclear. The Book S is easy to carry to lectures and meetings and takes pen input. The Arm chip and 8GB of RAM limit heavier software, and the keyboard and pen raise the real cost.
Pick the Book 14 if screen size and processing power matter most. Pick the Book S 12.4″ if you want a light, pen-friendly tablet for notes and travel and can live with the performance limits.
