Poco M8x vs Redmi 17 4G

Poco M8x vs Redmi 17 4G, Both phones are from Xiaomi. The Poco M8x is a budget 5G phone from its performance sub-brand. The Redmi 17 4G is a cheaper 4G-only phone from the main Redmi line. Poco added the M8x 5G to its M8 lineup in India. The Redmi 17 came in 4G and 5G versions so Xiaomi could keep the price down. The M8x suits people who want a long-lasting 5G phone. The Redmi 17 4G suits people who want to spend as little as possible. They launched within weeks of each other, which is why shoppers are comparing them now.

Poco M8x vs Redmi 17 4G

Poco M8x vs Redmi 17 4G Specs

The screens match: 6.9-inch HD+ LCD, 120Hz. The differences are inside. The M8x has a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 on a 4nm process and a 7,900mAh battery, plus IP64 protection. The Redmi 17 4G has a 4G-only MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra and a 7,500mAh battery. Its eMMC 5.1 storage is slower than the M8x’s UFS 2.2. Both have a 50MP main camera and an 8MP selfie camera. Poco claims over 650,000 on AnTuTu and about 35 hours of social media scrolling. Xiaomi says the Redmi lasts up to 2 days. I found no independent tests. Judging by the chips, I’d expect the M8x to feel smoother, and battery life should be close.

Poco M8x vs Redmi 17 4G Price

In India the M8x costs Rs. 20,999 for 4GB+128GB and Rs. 22,999 for 6GB+128GB on Flipkart. Launch offers cut the entry price to Rs 18,999. The Redmi 17 4G starts at $179 (about Rs 17,040) and MYR 669 in Malaysia. It is sold in select markets. An India launch is expected, but I couldn’t confirm one. So the choice comes down to whether 5G and a faster chip are worth roughly Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000 extra.

If you want more from Poco, the M8 range also has the M8 5G, M8 Pro 5G and M8 Power 5G. If you want more from Redmi, there is the Redmi 17 5G ($249, Snapdragon 4 Gen 5) and the Redmi Note 17 series. Outside Xiaomi, Samsung’s Galaxy A series, Realme and Infinix sell phones in this price range, though I haven’t compared specific models. I kept this pair together because screen, battery size and charging are nearly identical, so the real differences are the chip and 5G.

The M8x’s newer chip and faster storage should keep it usable for longer, which matters if you hold phones for years. It costs more, and the 4GB base model may struggle when you switch between many apps. The Redmi 17 4G is cheaper with similar battery life, but its older chip and slower storage will feel dated sooner, and it can’t use 5G. Choose the Poco M8x if speed and 5G matter most. Choose the Redmi 17 4G if price matters more and you mostly call, message, stream and use social apps on a 4G network.
