Redmi Note 17 vs Poco M8 Power, These are two budget 5G phones from Xiaomi, and they’re close to being the same phone. The Redmi Note 17 is the regular Note, sold the usual way. Poco is Xiaomi’s cheaper, spec-sheet-first brand. The M8 Power is widely based on the China Redmi Note 17, with small differences in colours and back panel design. Both landed in India within days of each other in August 2026, at different prices. That’s why people are comparing them.

The shared hardware is a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chip, an 8,000mAh battery and a 120Hz AMOLED screen, around 6.9 inches depending on which listing you trust. Both have a 50MP main camera and 45W wired charging. The Redmi puts a charger in the box and lists Gorilla Glass 7i and IP65. Poco promises four OS upgrades and six years of security updates. I couldn’t find Xiaomi making a promise that specific for the Redmi. Poco says about three days of use and a 70-minute full charge. That’s the company talking, and I found no independent reviews yet. With the same battery and chip, I’d guess the Redmi lands in the same place.
Prices are in rupees:
| 6GB + 128GB | 8GB + 128GB | With bank offer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Poco M8 Power | ₹24,999 | ₹27,999 | ₹21,999 (base) |
| Redmi Note 17 | ₹27,999 | ₹30,999 | ₹24,999 / ₹27,999 |
Poco sells on Flipkart. Redmi sells through Xiaomi, Amazon and Xiaomi Retail. Both are India-only for now. A global Redmi Note 17 series is reported, with leaked European prices, but I found nothing confirming the Poco abroad. If you’re deciding between them, you’re really deciding whether ₹3,000 buys anything you care about.
Xiaomi has other options. The Redmi Note 17 Pro is above the Note 17. The Redmi Note 15 launched at ₹22,999 in January, so it’s worth a look if you find stock. Poco’s POCO X8 is reported to be the rebranded Note 17 Pro. Outside Xiaomi, the OnePlus Nord CE6 Lite and Motorola Moto G77 Power 5G appear as alternatives at a similar price. I haven’t checked their specs, so look at reviews first. I’d still compare these two before those, since with matching hardware the only differences are price and extras.
The Poco is cheaper for the same chip, battery and screen, and it has the clearer update promise. It’s sold in fewer places. The Redmi gives you the charger and a water-resistance rating, so you won’t buy those separately. It costs more at list price, and only a bank offer narrows that. Neither phone has fast memory or storage.
If it were my money, I’d take the Poco unless I wanted the charger and IP65. Choose the Poco M8 Power for the lower price and the update promise. Choose the Redmi Note 17 for the extras and the wider retail network.
