The Redmi Note 17 5G is Xiaomi’s budget mid-range phone for global markets, announced in August 2026 and running Android 16 with HyperOS 3. It comes with 128GB or 256GB of storage and a microSD slot. The display is a 6.99-inch 1080×2396 AMOLED with 120Hz refresh, 1,800 nits peak brightness and Gorilla Glass 7i. The 5G model has a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 and 6GB or 8GB of RAM. A 4G-only version with the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 is sold alongside it. Cameras are a 50MP main and a 16MP front. At 8.5mm thick and 225g, the phone is not thin for its class, but a 7,700mAh battery in that body is still a lot. This post covers the global model only, not the China/India variant.
Power and charging
The battery is a 7,700mAh silicon-carbon cell with TÜV SÜD 5-star certification. The India/China model is rated at 8,000mAh, so global buyers get about 300mAh less. Charging is 45W wired, with 22.5W wired reverse charging, so the phone can top up earbuds or another phone in a pinch. Xiaomi claims 80% capacity after 1,600 charge cycles, roughly six years of regular use. The EU energy label says 1,000 cycles, so I’d trust the lower number until someone tests it. GSMArena’s own battery test logged 19 hours 40 minutes of active use. Charger inclusion varies by market, so check the box listing before buying.
Pricing, fit and context
In Europe the phone is listed at €255.99 for 128GB/6GB, or £219 in the UK, with 256GB/6GB at £249. I couldn’t find confirmed pricing for other regions, including Nigeria. Local retailers and import sellers will set their own numbers.
Who it suits: Anyone who streams, navigates and chats all day and wants the charger out of mind. Heavy gamers should look elsewhere.
Within Xiaomi: It sits between the Redmi 17 5G below and the Redmi Note 17 Pro above. The Pro is expected to add a larger battery, faster charging and IP68 and IP69 ratings.
Against other brands: The Samsung Galaxy A26 5G and Motorola Moto G86 Power sell in the same price band. I picked both from memory, so confirm current prices where you live.
Closest match: The Moto G86 Power, which also puts battery life first at a similar price.
