CONS

  1. Entry-level Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 in a Pro-named phone
  2. China-only; global versions differ in battery and cost more

The Redmi Note 17 Pro (China) is Xiaomi’s new mid-range 5G phone under the Redmi brand. You get a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel (1280 x 2772), a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, Android 16 on HyperOS 3, and 8GB or 12GB of RAM. Storage runs 128GB to 512GB, and there’s no microSD slot. It’s 163.5 x 78.3 x 8.5 mm, weighs 226 g, and carries an IP69K rating. The headline is the 9,000mAh battery, which Xiaomi says is its biggest yet in a Note phone. Redmi also jumped from Note 15 straight to Note 17, so there’s no Note 16.

That battery is a silicon-carbon cell. Charging is 67W wired, with 22.5W reverse wired for topping up other devices. Xiaomi hasn’t given a usable capacity. It cites TÜV SÜD five-star certification and up to 1,600 cycles above 80% health. China also gets a five-year battery programme: a free replacement if health falls under 80% in the first four years, and a larger battery in year five. I couldn’t find an official full-charge time for this model. The global Note 17 Pro (8,340mAh or 9,000mAh, depending on version) is listed at 50% in 34 minutes, which is a reasonable guide.

In China the Pro starts at ¥1,599 for 8GB + 128GB, then ¥1,699 (8GB + 256GB), ¥1,999 (12GB + 256GB) and ¥2,099 (8GB + 512GB). The base price converts to about $225 or ₹22,700, and GSMArena lists around 210 EUR. Grey-market units in Bangladesh start near ৳32,000. If you want big battery life and a tough body and don’t mind importing, this is the phone for you. If you want fast silicon, look elsewhere.

Inside Xiaomi’s lineup, the standard Redmi Note 17 sits below it (8,000mAh, from ¥1,299). The Note 17 Pro Max is above, listed at ₹49,999 in India by Smartprix. Rivals worth checking are the Honor Power 2 and the Realme P4 Power, both big-battery mid-rangers, though I haven’t verified their current prices. The closest comparison is the Redmi Turbo 5 with its Dimensity 8500-Ultra. Smartprix lists it at ₹37,999 in India against ₹39,999 for the Note 17 Pro, so the Turbo 5 gets you the stronger chip for slightly less.
