The Redmi Note 17 (India/China) 5G is a mid-range phone from Xiaomi’s Redmi line, and its screen is almost the size of a small tablet. In India it has a 6.99-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel, a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chip and an 8,000mAh battery. The body is 8.4 mm thick, weighs 225 g, and uses Gorilla Glass 7i with an IP65 rating. You pick 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Indian units ship with 128GB of storage, while the China version goes up to 256GB of UFS 2.2. There is a single 50MP camera on the back and an 8MP one on the front. Software is Android 16 with HyperOS 3. Xiaomi skipped the Note 16 name, and the 8,000mAh cell is the biggest it has put in a Note.
Power and charging
The battery is a silicon-carbon cell rated at 8,000mAh, and Xiaomi hasn’t published a usable figure. The company says typical use stretches to three days. Its other claims are 10 hours of GPS navigation, 22 hours of short video, and 80% battery health after 1,600 cycles. Wired charging tops out at 45W, which is slow for a battery this size, and reverse wired charging runs at 22.5W. India gets the charger in the box. All of this is Xiaomi’s own data, since no independent battery tests are out yet.
Pricing, fit and context
China came first, starting at CNY 1,299 (about $192). In India the 6GB + 128GB model is Rs 27,999, or Rs 24,999 with the introductory discount. The 8GB + 128GB model is Rs 30,999, or Rs 27,999 at launch.
This is for someone who mostly watches video, navigates and messages, and wants a big screen that lasts. It is a poor fit for heavy gaming or camera-focused buyers.
Inside Xiaomi’s lineup, the Redmi Note 17 Pro sits above it, with a 9,000mAh battery from CNY 1,599. The Redmi Note 15 overlaps with it. It launched in January at Rs 22,999 with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and a 5,520mAh battery.
Indian reviewers put the OnePlus Nord CE6 Lite and Motorola Edge 70 Fusion in direct competition. The closest match is the Realme P4 Power. It costs about the same, and one review rates it higher for battery, display and camera. The Note 17 counters with simpler everyday use and a longer promised software-support period.
