The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is the top model in Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 17 line, a 5G phone in the upper mid-range. The screen is a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED at 120Hz under Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and the body is rated IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K. It runs a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. The 128GB version reportedly uses slower UFS 2.2. It is 8.65mm thick and weighs about 227.5g, which is heavy but reasonable for what is inside. The battery is the story here, the largest Xiaomi has put in any phone. The camera is the trade. A 50MP main sensor with OIS replaces the 200MP unit from the Note 15 Pro+, joined by an 8MP ultrawide and a 32MP selfie camera.
Battery and charging
The battery is a silicon-carbon cell, rated at 10,000mAh in many markets. Australia and Taiwan get 9,210mAh instead, so check the spec sheet for your region. Wired charging is 100W, and Xiaomi says a 10-minute charge gives about 7 hours of video. Reverse wired charging is 27W, enough to top up another phone or an accessory.
Xiaomi quotes up to 3 days of normal use, 40 hours of video, 24 hours of navigation and 21 hours of gaming. It also says the battery will hold up well after 6 years, with the Surge G2 chip managing it. Those are the company’s figures. Independent battery tests will tell you more.
Pricing, fit and context
Global pricing starts at about $499. Europe is higher: Amazon Spain lists 8GB/256GB at €599, and a 512GB model at €649 reportedly comes with a Redmi Watch 6. Malaysia is RM1,999 for 8GB/256GB and Singapore is S$749. I could not find a confirmed Nigerian price or availability, so check local retailers and importers. India has not received the phone yet.
If you charge your phone every night out of habit and are tired of it, this is the buyer it is made for. If photos matter more to you than battery life, it is a weaker fit.
Inside Xiaomi’s lineup it sits above the Redmi Note 17 Pro, which has an 8,340mAh battery, the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 and 67W charging. It also replaces the Redmi Note 15 Pro+, which has a 200MP main camera and costs noticeably less.
Outside Xiaomi, the Samsung Galaxy A57 5G and the Google Pixel 10a are the phones to compare. I chose both from general knowledge of the segment, so check current prices. The Galaxy A57 5G is the closest direct match. It offers longer software support and more consistent cameras, but its battery is much smaller and it charges more slowly.
