The Redmi 17C 5G is an entry-level phone from Xiaomi’s Redmi line. It has a 6.9-inch HD+ screen running at 120Hz, a Dimensity 6300 chip and a 50-megapixel main camera. Storage is 64GB or 128GB UFS 2.2 with microSD support up to 1TB, and RAM is 4GB. India also gets a 6GB + 128GB version. It is IP64-rated and runs HyperOS 3. The 17C replaces the Redmi 15C, and Xiaomi skipped the 16C name entirely. An earlier 4G-only 17C with a Helio G81 Ultra chip launched in China, so confirm which one you’re looking at.
The 5G model has a 6,000mAh (typical) battery with charging up to 33W. Xiaomi hasn’t published a usable capacity or a charge time, so ignore any exact numbers you see. The 4G model is smaller, with 5,160mAh and 18W wired charging. The 5G version also has a 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth 5.4.
India’s prices are Rs. 20,999 for 4GB + 128GB and Rs. 22,999 for 6GB + 128GB. Sales opened October 7 on Amazon.in and Xiaomi’s India store. In Singapore it is listed at SGD 279. The China-only 4G version started at CNY 799 for 4GB + 64GB. I couldn’t find a confirmed Nigerian price.
This phone suits someone who wants a big screen, long battery life and 5G for calls, messaging and video, and who won’t miss gaming power or a sharper display.
Inside Redmi, it sits between the Redmi 15C and the Redmi Note 17 series, which has an 8,000mAh battery and replaces the Note 15. The Redmi 15 5G also competes with it from within the lineup. Outside Redmi, the Samsung Galaxy M17 5G and Poco M7 Plus 5G target the same buyers. The Poco M7 Plus 5G is the nearest match, so compare it directly on chipset, battery, charging speed and street price.
