The Redmi Note 17 4G is Xiaomi’s budget Redmi Note phone for people who don’t need 5G. It launched in August 2026 with a 6.99-inch 1080×2396 screen, 224g weight, 8.5mm thickness, and Android 16 on HyperOS 3. The chipset is a Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 on a 6nm process, paired with a 120Hz AMOLED panel. RAM goes from 4GB to 8GB, storage is 128GB or 256GB, and a 5G version on the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 sits next to it in the lineup. The screen peaks at 1800 nits, the glass is Gorilla Glass 7i, and the body is IP65 rated. The biggest draw is the battery, which is large for a phone this cheap.
Xiaomi lists a typical capacity of the Redmi Note 17 4G to be 7700mAh in a silicon-carbon cell, charged at 45W over a wire. It also does 22.5W reverse wired charging, so it can top up earphones or another phone. There is no wireless charging and the battery can’t be replaced. GSMArena’s test gave 18:55 hours of active use. Xiaomi says the cell keeps 80% of its health after 1,600 cycles, about six years of normal use. The EU energy label rates it at 1,000 cycles, so I’d plan around that lower number.
In the UK it costs £199, and in the eurozone €239. Kimovil lists the global 4GB/128GB model from about $203. One Nigerian listing shows a starting price of NGN 261,660, but the same page calls the phone “upcoming” in Nigeria, so check with a local seller first.
It makes sense for someone who charges every two or three days, watches a lot of video, and mostly uses messaging, social and maps. It’s not a phone for heavy gaming.
Inside Xiaomi’s range, it sits above the Redmi 17 4G, which has a 6.9-inch IPS LCD, a Helio G91 Ultra, and a 7500 mAh battery. The Redmi Note 17 Pro is a step up, with an 8,340 mAh battery and 67W charging. Outside Xiaomi, the Samsung Galaxy A17 4G and Infinix Note 50 4G compete at a similar price, though local prices vary by retailer.
The closest comparison is the Redmi Note 17 5G. It uses the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 and has the same 6.99-inch AMOLED screen, 50MP main camera, and 45W charging. The battery is also the same 7700 mAh. The differences come down to the chipset and 5G support, so check the price gap where you live before choosing the 4G.
