The Redmi 17 is Xiaomi’s budget phone, placed below the Redmi Note 17. It has a 6.9-inch IPS LCD in a plastic body that measures 170.1 x 78.4 x 8.8 mm and weighs 232 g. It comes in two versions. The 4G model uses a MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra, and the 5G model uses a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. Storage is 128GB or 256GB. Two details stand out. Xiaomi says it is the first Redmi series with a Dynamic RGB light, and a 4G-only phone in 2026 is unusual.
The battery is the main feature. Global models have 7,500mAh, and the India 5G model has 7,900mAh. Xiaomi rates the 4G model at up to 28 hours of video and 91 hours of music, and the 5G model at up to 109 hours of Bluetooth music and 53 hours of calls. Those are the company’s own test numbers, so treat them as a ceiling. Wired charging is 45W, and reverse wired charging is 22.5W, which lets it top up earbuds or a watch over USB-C. There is no wireless charging. It runs Android 16 with HyperOS 3, has an IP64 rating, and a 120Hz screen with Gorilla Glass 7i. The cameras are a 50MP main sensor with an auxiliary lens and an 8MP selfie camera.
Prices depend on where you buy. The 4G model is listed at USD 179. In Malaysia it starts at RM669, with the 5G model at RM769. In the Benelux, the range runs from €219.90 for the 4G model to €299.90 for the 5G model with 256GB. India prices the 5G model at Rs 23,999 for 6GB/128GB and Rs 26,999 for 8GB/128GB. In Nigeria, the 4G model with 4GB/128GB is listed at ₦213,400. Local prices move often, so check current listings before you buy.
It suits someone who wants a big screen and a battery that lasts a couple of days, mostly for video, calls and messaging. It does not suit anyone who cares about display sharpness or gaming speed.
Inside the Redmi lineup, it sits between the Redmi 15 5G and the Redmi Note 17. The Note 17 adds an AMOLED display and an 8,000mAh battery, so it is the model your money might drift toward. Outside the brand, the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G and the Infinix Hot 60 5G+ are the nearest rivals at this price. The Galaxy A17 5G is the closest match overall, and it is the phone most buyers will weigh against the Redmi 17 5G.
