Most of us look after our health in small ways now: more water, fewer hours glued to a chair, a smartwatch on the wrist. The air inside our homes mostly gets ignored. Xiaomi’s Mijia Air Purifier & Humidifier Pro (model CJSJSQ02ZM) is aimed at that gap. It purifies and humidifies in a single machine.
Why a 2-in-1 makes sense
One unit takes up less floor space, uses one power point and costs less than two appliances. There’s a practical benefit too. The purifier cleans the air first, then passes it to the humidifier, so the moisture comes out cleaner than it would from a standalone humidifier.

How it cleans the air
Five sensors track air quality and the machine adjusts its output to match. It uses UV-C light and filters together. Xiaomi cites lab tests certified by SGS and the Guangzhou Testing Centre of Industrial Microbiology. In those tests, more than 90 percent of 12 allergens, bacteria and dust types were gone after one hour. Some of the numbers:
- Influenza A (H1N1): 99.99 percent
- E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae: 99.9 percent each
- Cat dander: 99.01 percent
- Dust mites: 98.07 percent
- Japanese cedar pollen allergen: 97.28 percent
- Dog dander: 96.11 percent
Xiaomi also claims 99.99 percent removal of PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 within an hour. If you’ve ever tried to clear a home of pet dander for an allergic guest, you’ll know the cat and dog figures are good.
What it means for South African homes
Our air carries smoke from veld, tyre and coal fires, plus whatever comes from mines, farms, factories and traffic. Add pollen to that. The Allergy Foundation South Africa says the high-pollen period runs into March, so allergy sufferers face months of symptoms from now.
The humidifier
Gauteng and other inland areas get very dry air. It makes allergy symptoms worse, dries the skin around your eyes, and aggravates headaches and snoring. We get nosebleeds from it, and one can write off a whole day.
The humidifier uses a mist-free cool evaporative process with washable filters and a water management system. At full power it puts out up to 2 000 ml/h, which handles large rooms. Sleep mode drops that to about 496 ml/h, so the 8 L tank lasts up to 16 hours, and the noise falls to 14.6 dB. The American Academy of Audiology lists rustling leaves at about 20 dB, so the machine is quieter than that.
