Someone on Reddit says their Redmi K90 Max stopped hitting 165Hz in games right after the HyperOS 4 update. They turned on the refresh rate counter in Developer options to check, and it read 120Hz.
What the Reddit post says
The thread is from November 4. The owner says that the day before, their games ran at 165fps. Now everything is stuck at 120Hz, in games and on the system counter alike. Xiaomi hasn’t responded and no tech site has covered it, so right now this is one person’s word.

Why 120Hz would sting
The K90 Max is a China-only gaming phone that launched on April 21, 2026. The panel is a 6.83-inch AMOLED that goes up to 165Hz, and Xiaomi says over 40 games run at 165fps natively. There’s also a built-in fan, a Dimensity 9500 chip and an 8550mAh battery, but the high refresh rate is what the phone is sold on.
Stable HyperOS 4 began rolling out in China on October 15, with the Xiaomi 17 and Redmi K90 lines first. The K90 Max launched on HyperOS 3.0, so this would be its first major update. I couldn’t confirm that the K90 Max is on Xiaomi’s official rollout list, so check before you say it got the update on a specific date.
What to try
HyperOS has truncated frame rates in games before. Mundo Xiaomi documented a Developer options toggle that gets around the 60fps cap. This is a different number, but I’d flip it anyway, since the cause could be the same.
- Turn on the refresh rate counter and test a game that supports 165fps.
- Look through Game Turbo for anything forcing a lower refresh rate or saving power aggressively.
- Try again with a full battery and a cool phone. Xiaomi’s support pages say heat and low charge can pull the refresh rate down.
- Make sure the game supports 165fps at all.
One Reddit commenter guessed that games need to be adapted to the new version. Nobody has confirmed a fix.
Too early to call it a bug
It’s one report on one phone that’s sold only in China, with no word from Xiaomi. If your K90 Max does the same after updating, screenshot the counter and send it through the Community app. More cases or a statement from Xiaomi would change that, and I’ll update this post if either shows up.
