Xiaomi Pad 9 vs Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro, Both tablets are made by Xiaomi, the Chinese brand known for cheap, well-speced Android hardware. The Pad 9 has an 11.2-inch screen and is pitched at entertainment, note taking and everyday use. The Pad 9 Pro steps up to 12.5 inches for productivity and multitasking. Xiaomi just launched both as successors to the Pad 8 series, so now is when people start asking which one to buy.

On specs, the screens match: a 3.2K (3200×2136) LCD at 144Hz in a 3:2 ratio, with Dolby Vision. Peak brightness differs, at 800 nits on the Pad 9 and 1,000 on the Pro. The Pad 9 has a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, a 9,720mAh battery with 45W charging, a 13MP rear camera and 8MP front camera, and weighs 485g. The Pro has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (some outlets call it the 8 Elite Gen 5), an 11,000mAh battery with 67W charging, a 50MP rear and 32MP front camera, six speakers, and weighs 580g. The Pro also runs PC-level apps like full WPS and CapCut Pro. Xiaomi rates both batteries at up to 14.5 hours of video. I’d expect less in practice at high brightness and 144Hz, but that’s my estimate, not a test result.
In China, the Pad 9 starts at 2,999 yuan (about $447) and the Pro at 3,799 yuan (about $566) for the 8GB+128GB versions. Both are China-only for now, and Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed an India or global launch. I found no official Nigerian pricing. If you’re in Nigeria, you’d be importing through a reseller, with extra cost and shaky warranty support. So the question is whether the Pro’s extra hardware is worth about $119 more.
Within Xiaomi’s lineup, the Pad 9 Pro Max sits above both and uses the company’s own Xring O3 chip. Below them is the Pad 8 series. The Pad 9 keeps the same chip as the Pad 8, so Pad 8 owners have little reason to upgrade. Outside Xiaomi, the OnePlus Pad 3, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S line and Apple’s iPad Air are the obvious alternatives. Check their local prices before deciding.
The Pad 9 is lighter, which helps if you read or watch video in bed or on a train, and it costs less for the same display. You give up camera quality and faster charging, which only matters if you scan documents or take video calls on the tablet. The Pro’s larger screen, stronger chip and six speakers help with split-screen work, editing and meetings. Its drawbacks are the higher price and the extra 95g, which you’ll notice holding it with one hand.
Choose the Pad 9 if portability and price matter most. Choose the Pad 9 Pro if you’ll use it for work or editing and want the extra power and screen space. The Pro is the better tool, but it costs more and is heavier to carry.
