Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in China hours after Qualcomm announced its new silicon, so it’s the first phone with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The regular 18 Pro gets the plain Gen 6. Same launch, different tier of chip, which is a bigger split than we usually see between a Pro and a Pro Max.
The screen is a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED. The battery is 8,500mAh, 13% bigger than last year’s. That’s the number I’d care about most. The cost is weight: NanoReview lists 235 grams, and I wouldn’t call that pocket-friendly. If you want a big phone that lasts, fine. If you don’t, the smaller Pro exists for a reason.
Cameras are murkier. Leaks said dual 200MP, and a few spec sites now list 200MP + 200MP + 50MP, but I can’t tell how much of that is confirmed and how much is copied from rumors. I’ll wait for real reviews. A 200MP sensor tells you very little about whether the photos look good.
The price is where it stings. Converted to dollars, it starts around $1,045 and tops out near $1,492 for 16GB/1TB. Leakers pinned this on chip and memory costs, and I believe them. I just don’t love it. Xiaomi got popular by undercutting flagships, and at these numbers it isn’t really doing that.
The global launch is promised for later this year, and that’s the version most of us will actually be able to buy. Wait for its price and camera tuning before deciding anything. Global models have shipped with different battery and charging specs from the Chinese ones before, so check those too.
