Redmi Note 17 Pro Max vs Poco X8 Power 5G, Both phones are big-battery 5G Android handsets from Xiaomi. Redmi is its mainstream brand and Poco is the value-focused one. Leaked marketing suggested the Poco X8 Power is a rebrand of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max with only small differences. The Redmi suits people who want Xiaomi’s regular retail and warranty setup. The Poco suits people who care more about price and don’t mind buying online. They’re worth comparing now because the Redmi launched globally in late August 2026 and the Poco reached India on September 4.

The hardware overlaps heavily. The Redmi has a 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery with 100W charging and 27W reverse charging. The Poco lists the same battery and 100W charging, a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED at 120Hz, a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, a 50MP OIS main camera with an 8MP ultrawide, and a 32MP selfie camera. Xiaomi’s Redmi specs add a 2,000-nit high-brightness mode, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and an f/1.5 main lens. I couldn’t find those on the Poco’s sheets, so they may be Redmi-only. Storage is another gap. The Redmi’s 128GB version reportedly uses UFS 2.2, and larger versions may get UFS 4.1. The Poco’s base model uses UFS 2.1, and both versions have 8GB of RAM. I found no independent battery tests, so real-world endurance is still unknown. Poco does promise four years of OS upgrades and six of security patches.
In India, the Redmi starts at ₹49,999 and the Poco at ₹35,999. The Redmi’s global starting price is $499. The Poco is sold through Flipkart, and I found no confirmed global price for it. The question this page answers is whether the Redmi’s extra cost buys anything you’d use.
Inside Redmi, the cheaper step is the Note 17 Pro at $399, with a smaller 8,340mAh battery and a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. Inside Poco, the X8 has a 9,000mAh battery and the same 6s Gen 4 chip, while the X8 Pro Max costs around ₹48,999. Outside both brands, spec sites often put the OnePlus Nord 6 and Motorola Edge 70 Pro next to this Poco. I still think this pairing is the more useful one, since the phones are so close that the price gap is easy to judge.
The Redmi’s display extras help if you watch a lot of video on your phone. Its price is hard to defend if you won’t use them, because the battery and chip are the same. Xiaomi’s warranty terms may also help it last longer, and one review points to free battery replacement within five years, though that may vary by region. The Poco gives you the same headline battery, charging speed and screen size for much less money. Its base model has slower storage and only 8GB of RAM, which could frustrate heavy multitaskers.
Choose the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max if you want the display features, Xiaomi’s service network and wider availability. Choose the Poco X8 Power 5G if price matters more and it’s sold where you live. If your region prices them close together, check the storage type and RAM first.
