  2. IP68/IP69K rating
  3. Best chipset and camera, with OIS and 4K video

CONS

  1. Heaviest of the AMOLED models at 206g and 8.3mm thick
  2. No wireless charging and no microSD slot

The Poco M8 Pro 5G is a mid-range phone from Poco, Xiaomi’s sub-brand. The screen is a 6.83-inch AMOLED at 120 Hz with 3,200 nits peak brightness, covered in Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Inside is a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, sold with 8 GB/256 GB or 12 GB/512 GB. It runs Android 15 on HyperOS 2, with four OS upgrades promised. The body is the same as the Redmi Note 15 series, and the hardware is close to a Redmi Note 15 Pro+, minus the 200 MP main camera. Instead you get a 50 MP main sensor with OIS, an 8 MP ultrawide and a 32 MP selfie camera.

The battery is a 6,500 mAh silicon-carbon cell, and it can’t be removed. Wired charging reaches 100W, and the phone can send 22.5W out over a cable. Poco claims 0 to 100% in about 40 minutes. The phone carries an IP69K rating and Poco’s IceLoop cooling. At 8.31 mm thick and about 206 g, it is a heavy phone.

The 8 GB/256 GB version launched at $299 (£299 / €349), and the 12 GB/512 GB version at $359 (£349 / €399). In the Philippines they list at Php16,999 and Php19,999. This is a phone for people who care most about battery life, charging speed and screen size at around $300, and who won’t miss a telephoto lens. Within Poco it sits above the Poco M8 (5,520 mAh, 45W) and below the Poco X7 Pro. At a similar price, the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion and Samsung Galaxy A36 5G are the obvious outside rivals. The closest direct match is the Redmi Note 15 Pro+, which shares the platform and adds the 200 MP camera for more money.
