Xiaomi 18 Pro Max vs Poco F9 Ultra, Same parent company, different jobs. The 18 Pro Max is Xiaomi’s top flagship, a camera-first phone with the brand’s most polished software. The Poco F9 Ultra is the sub-brand’s performance phone, built for gamers and people who live in video apps. It’s a timely comparison: the 18 Pro Max just launched in China with a global release promised for later this year, while the F9 Ultra was unveiled on September 1 and is already on shelves in some places.

On paper, the 18 Pro Max (China version) has a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED at 120Hz, peaking at 4,000 nits. It runs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 on a 2nm process, with an 8,500mAh battery. The cameras are 200MP + 200MP + 50MP. Don’t treat that as final for your region, though. Nobody knows yet whether Europe gets the same battery. The F9 Ultra has a 6.9-inch AMOLED running up to 185Hz, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, an 8,050mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, a 200MP main camera with a 5x zoom lens, IP68, and a Bose-tuned subwoofer. A subwoofer in a phone is odd, and I kind of like it. I couldn’t find independent battery or camera tests for either, so what follows is a guess: both should survive a heavy day, the Poco should feel better for games, and the Xiaomi should take better zoomed shots.
The 18 Pro Max starts at CNY 6,999 in China, and converted global prices will probably be higher. The F9 Ultra’s price depends heavily on where you are: $799 in one global listing, €999 in Europe, RM3,599 in Malaysia, ₱55,990 in the Philippines. I found no official Nigerian price for either phone. So the decision is whether Xiaomi’s cameras and newer chip justify paying more.
If you want something smaller from Xiaomi, there’s the 18 Pro with a 6.4-inch screen and a 7,000mAh battery. Don’t wait for an 18 Ultra, since it’s reportedly cancelled. Poco’s cheaper step down is the F9 Pro, from $699 with a 6.59-inch display. Outside Xiaomi, the Galaxy S26 Ultra and iPhone 18 Pro Max usually resell better and get updates for longer. This pairing still makes sense because the hardware is related, so you’re comparing priorities rather than ecosystems.
The 18 Pro Max’s bigger battery and newer chip help if you keep phones for years, and the dual 200MP cameras help if you zoom a lot. You pay for that with a higher price and specs that may change before they reach you. The F9 Ultra’s 185Hz screen and speaker are real advantages for gaming and video, and you can buy it today. But its chip is a generation older, and Poco’s prices have crept up.
Choose the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max if camera quality and long-term use matter most and you can wait for the global launch. Choose the Poco F9 Ultra if gaming, sound and buying now matter more than having the newest chip.
